2030 Skills | Nomadicards | Speak better | Issue #0038
It’s about you ,not us.
The Digital Nomad isn’t going to become a newsletter for finding remote work or advice on running your business, but in last week’s poll the most responses were to include more about work and opportunities.
It’s not that we’re going to pretend to be able to help every digital nomad’s individual situation, but we’ll share more from actual experts in business and work in future. As it happens, this week we found a study that ALL of you might benefit from seeing the results of…
📚 What skills will you need to have in 5 years time?
🛌 AirBnB are going transparent…ish
🇻🇳 One of you tell us about the lesser-seen side of Da Nang
🤝 Make better connections with other nomads, and quicker
☕️ What do you know about coffee?
Have you been forwarded The Digital Nomad by a friend? If so, don’t miss out on future issues and get it every Tuesday.
In fact, we bet you have friends who are digital nomads. Help us reach a few more and forward this newsletter to them in case it might help them out too. Thanks!
NEWS
What skills will you need in 2030?

The World Economic Forum published a report earlier this year on the future of jobs and, in amongst its analysis, a trend of skills that are emerging as crucial going forward appeared.
The graph above highlights them, but to see the breakdown you’ll need to grab the report. Unsurprising perhaps, AI, technological literacy and analytical thinking ranked high.
It’s a very detailed, comprehensive report, but if you’re already au fait with the top skills they are suggesting then you’ll know that asking Chat GPT for a summary of the pdf will save you a lot of reading!
WHAT ELSE…
🛌 Airbnb clarity Apparently, it’s now universal that the total price will be shown on listings.
🇹🇲 Be one of the first Not a digital nomad visa, but Turkmenistan is now open. Until now you needed an invite, but could you pioneer digital nomadism there?
💰 Airline screwup? You’re in a demographic most likely to experience one. If you’re having no luck with the airline, try Airhelp.
💁♂️ Is there a typical nomad story? A little controversy brewed over what is one man’s story, but isn’t the point of nomadism that no two journeys are the same?

Do you make REAL connections on the road?

Francesco is hoping his cards will increase your chances!
Something a bit different this week. Francesco doesn’t want your money, isn’t offering his services, or even giving out free advice.
He has, however, come up with a solution for a problem a lot of nomads face…the dreaded “where are you from, what do you do, where are you going next?” sequence of questions you get at nearly EVERY nomad meetup…
“I like side projects. I also love talking to the people I meet in colivings about life and the world, but that doesn’t often happen organically.
The idea behind the cards was to help me and other nomads reflect on their nomad life, and help get a secondary observation of some deeper questions we could ask. Hopefully they will help foster connections.
The cards are for anyone to use, but they are great for coliving spaces and people who run events or communities. Hopefully as many of them as possible will get a deck, that way one deck can benefit lots of people!”
Francesco isn’t selling the cards, but anyone can download the pdf of the cards at nomadicards.com. If you are or know a coworking space or a community leader that doesn’t have a set yet, then send them to the website to get in touch with Francesco there, and he’ll arrange to have a deck printed and sent out.
We love to feature nomads and what you do that can help the rest of us. Fill out this form and tell us about your thing!

POLL
Coworking etiquette
We randomly pull a card from Francesco’s Nomadicards deck (see above!) for our polls, and this week it’s a tester…
You're at a coworking space and the person next you keeps loudly taking sales call. How do you handle it? |
If you haven’t heard of Nomadicards, you can download a pdf set on their website, or perhaps find a deck at a nearby coliving space. Thanks to Francesco for sharing his work with nomads!

DESTINATIONS
Alternative Da Nang, from a serial traveler

Regular reader, Tom Pellegrini is a serial traveler. He’s a digital nomad too, but travel comes first - especially if diving or surfing is involved.
Recently he joined the surge of nomads heading to Da Nang, and documented much of the three months he spent there. It’s well on the radar of nomads now and he didn’t take the usual route of staying in My An and hanging around with foreigners for three months.
If you’ve not been to Da Nang yet, take a read of basically everything you might not think to do in Da Nang. You might just get to see a different side of it.

THE LIST
5 exercises to improve your vocal presence

In our poll last week, most of you asked for more business or learning content and we’re listening, so The List will feature more content focussed on that in future.
Starting today, in fact. Here’s a summary of a Harvard Business Review piece on finding or improving your speaking voice with five simple exercises they recommend you try:
Connect your breath to your body. Use your body to learn to exhale for longer, a sign of confidence and safety.
Focus on the exhale. Reframe the breathing cycle so that the exhale is followed by the inhale - not the other way round.
Speak on the airflow. Time the start of voice onset with the exact moment the air flows outward.
Explore vocal variations. Warm up your voice to increase its flexibility - loudness, color, quality all contribute to your voice and need to be readied.
Connect voice and mind. Your thoughts, values and beliefs influences your voice. Practice and listen to different ways to say the same sentance.
Simple, huh? Ok, this is just to get your mind thinking. Read the full piece by Albrecht Enders and Robin de Haas. If you have a little more time, then this podcast will likely really change how you think about how you are heard.
